Angels and Demons : Book review.

Angels and Demons is another novel from the infamous thriller novelist Dan Brown. The Protagonist in this novel is a pre established character, the charming and impecabbly smart Robert Langdon. This novel is a prequel to The Da Vinci code, which I recently reviewed. For this novel, Dan Brown develops the character of Robert Langdon alittle more and answers our questions about Robert’s association with the Vatican church. As usual the story is mysterious and fast paced. Robert Langdon receives a phone call from Maximilian Kohler, the director General of CERN and a subsequent fax that causes him almost solely out of curiousity, to fly to CERN headquarters in switzerland to help solve a gruesome murder. This sets him and his new companion, Vittoria Vetra, daughter of the murder victim, Father Leonardo Vetra on a chase across Vatican City to find the murderer and find the Altar of the Illuminati before an unstoppable time bomb goes off in vatican City and vapourizes everyone and everything inside it.

Genre: Historical Thriller, Religious Drama.
Category: Detective and Mystery.

Robert langdon is a wholesome character, with habits, fears, anxieties, strengths and inherent motivations. This extends to most of the main characters in the book. The characters are well written and thought out. Their identities and motivations are clear throughout the book. The historical accuracy of the story is also impecable, it is almost hard to distinguish fact from fiction in this amazing fictional thriller. The description of structures and scenes is remarkably vivid leaving very little to the imagination. This story is also quite gory and blood ridden, as compared to the Da Vinci code. You might not want to read this book if you have a weak stomach, but for the Stephen King fanatics this will be a cake walk, a very interesting one.  The pace of the story is also consistent and fast injecting the reader with the same adrenaline that fuels the protagonists on their quest. It was remarkably enjoyable to read even though alittle easier to put down than the da vinci code. The story is also riddled with subplots and twists that I bet you,  you won’t have seen coming. The ending is satisfying and left me with alot of bliss, like rising from under the sand after years of being buried.
Dan Brown uses a similar writing style with the one he has used in the da vinvi code, relaying the thoughts and emotions of the characters in a lively and timely manner. The style is captivating and entices one to continue reading.

Recommendation: I would recommend this book to historical thriller lovers. It contains alot of historically correct information, so if you are looking for a book to improve your understanding of history and culture this is the perfect book for you. I would also recommend it to conspiracy buffs, and also to horror fans, as Dan Brown gives us a glimpse into a much darker part of his mind, with gory and descriptive murders riddling the plot of this book.

Star Rating: This book gets a 4.3/5 rating from me.
